Native shrubs provide some of the best fall color in our part of Colorado. Ribes aureum, the golden currant, is one of the most spectacular this time of year. It grows equally well in full sun or quite a bit of shade. It’s drought tolerant and provides bright yellow, fragrant flowers in May and dark berries in the summer. The berries are a favorite of songbirds. Here it is in its striking scarlet and burgundy foliage.
