It didn’t freeze everywhere in Colorado last night, but in my little valley within a valley, it dipped to 25 F. by five this morning. That’s cold for May, and cold for the blooms on the apple tree. Do we still have a chance to get apples this year? Time will tell. Here it is, shivering in the chilly dawn:
But when I see Greenhorn Mountain covered in snow, from top to bottom, I don’t feel so bad about the apple tree. We need that snow, to reduce the risk of fires, to provide drinking water to all of us in the valley, and to sustain the wildflowers and animals. It’s vital. And a cooler May means the snow that is there won’t melt so quickly, and that, too, is important for all of us. Here’s Greenhorn, our snowy, snowy mountain. Be happy:
