I usually post pictures of Greenhorn Mountain, but on our walk we can also see Pike’s Peak, The Spanish Peaks, and this snow covered mountain, Mount Mestas.

This shale covered hillside has great plants growing in the rocks: Eriogonum jamesii; Cercocarpus montanus; Yucca glauca; Penstemon angustifolius, and others.
From the arid uplands, it’s only a short stroll to Graneros Creek where the water is running fast and happy. Xander stepped in to have a drink.
We have a lot of mulching still to do. We’re trying to get a handle on the weeds, mulching any bare path.
We’ve been digging and dividing overgrown perennials in these areas. We’ve replanted quite a few spots, but there are still some blanks that I’ll fill in in the spring. Until then, we’re mulching deeply so that we don’t start the year with out-of-control weeds.
