This shale covered hillside has great plants growing in the rocks: Eriogonum jamesii; Cercocarpus montanus; Yucca glauca; Penstemon angustifolius, and others.

022From the arid uplands, it’s only a short stroll to Graneros Creek where the water is running fast and happy. Xander stepped in to have a drink.

We have a lot of mulching still to do. We’re trying to get a handle on the weeds, mulching any bare path.  025

We’ve been digging and dividing overgrown perennials in these areas. We’ve replanted quite a few spots, but there are still some blanks that I’ll fill in in the spring.  Until then, we’re mulching deeply so that we don’t start the year with out-of-control weeds.
